HISTORY

Bobsleigh is winter sport which origins as far back as in 1860s. Initially it was supposed as a tourist attraction and as a sport it didn’t begin until end of 19-th century. First bobsleigh club was founded in St. Moritz in 1897.

Bobsleigh is one of biggest winter sports in Latvia and we have many world, Olympics champions to be proud about. It all started back in USSR, when after Lake placid Olympics it was decided by Leonid Brezhnev to develop bobsleigh sport. As a high skilled specialists and constructors Latvians got the role and first bobs were made. From first 16 USSR bobsleigh team athletes 10 were Latvians.

Nowadays Latvian National Bobsleigh team is between best and is serious rival for such big bobsled Nations as Germany, Canada, Switzerland, Russia etc.
